TORONTO --Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Roman Polak will have surgery on his right leg Tuesday. The exact injury has not been disclosed and a timeline for his recovery has not been announced.
Polak was injured in the second period of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Washington Capitals on Saturday when he collided with Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik. The Maple Leafs announced after the game Polak would be out for the remainder of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"A real unfortunate situation for Roman," Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said Tuesday. "He's a good, good man. He's a great teammate, plays hard, competes hard. Unfortunate incident. It's real unfortunate for him and us."
Polak's right knee made contact with Orpik's right knee, causing him to spin as he fell to the ice. As Polak landed on the ice, his right knee twisted awkwardly and his full weight came down on his right ankle. Polak stayed down for several minutes before being helped off the ice by teammates and members of the Maple Leafs training staff.

In 75 regular-season games, Polak, 30, had 11 points (four goals, seven assists), a plus-10 rating and 65 penalty minutes averaging 17:55 per game. He played 23:52 in Game 1 against the Capitals.
In 634 NHL games, Polak has 115 points (23 goals, 92 assists) with a minus-13 rating and 504 penalty minutes. He can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
The Maple Leafs lead the best-of-7 series 2-1 with Game 4 at Air Canada Center on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports 2, CSN-DC).
