ELMONT, NY – Nightmare on Elm(ont) Street.

Tristan Jarry made 18 saves for his second straight shutout, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a pair of goals for the Edmonton Oilers, who blanked their opponents for the second game in a row as they celebrated Halloween with a 4-0 victory over the New York Islanders at UBS Arena to begin a three-game road trip.

Behind a strong defensive performance, Jarry was able to lock in his first back-to-back clean sheets in six seasons (2021), while the offence was powered by a three-goal third period from the Blue & Orange, where Nugent-Hopkins netted his second and third goals of the campaign, including one on the power play.

"He's been great last few times," Nugent-Hopkins said. "I thought tonight as a group, we were playing solid defensively and just trying to limit their high-quality chances, but they still found ways to get some really good looks, and when they did, he stood tall on there and made some big saves.

"I think as a group on the defensive side of things, we were solid tonight. But he still had to step up and make some big ones."

Jarry needed to make only three saves in the first period, but a pair of them were high-quality chances, before it was Nugent-Hopkins who opened the scoring at 11:18 of the second period off a hard forecheck and turnover made by Kasperi Kapanen.

Vasily Podkolzin capitalized on his ninth goal of the season only 62 seconds later, doubling Edmonton's advantage and putting the Oilers in full control.

Nugent-Hopkins and Jarry elevate the Oilers to a 4-0 win over the Islanders

With 1:34 to go in the middle frame, Connor McDavid set up No. 93 for his second goal of the afternoon, extending his NHL-record season-opening assist streak to 14 games and giving the captain eight goals and 29 assists over a matching 14-game point streak to start the year.

"He just finds ways, and even if things aren't going his way or the team's way, he'll find a way to kind of get us some momentum, and usually that ends up in a goal for us," Nugent-Hopkins said. "It's been a lot of fun to watch, and I know he's not gonna slow down."

Leon Draisaitl had two assists and sits alone in second place in the NHL's scoring race behind McDavid with 26 points (12G, 14A). Jason Dickinson added an empty-netter for his first goal of the year as the Oilers improved to 6-0-0 on the road, where they've outscored opponents 34-13 this season.

Amid a successful afternoon for the Oilers, they took their only real blow early in the first period when forward Isaac Howard was helped off the ice and didn't return from a knee-on-knee check by Emil Heineman, who was assessed a five-minute major.

"It's tough to see, especially because he's been playing so well, and he started to get some swagger and confidence," Shea said of Howard. "So hopefully he's back, because when he is, good things happen when he's on the ice."

Edmonton improves to 10-2-2 this season and will continue their road trip with the second of a back-to-back on Saturday at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers.

His 14-game assist streak has also set a new career-long assist streak for himself, besting his previous mark of 13 straight games accomplished from Feb. 13 to Mar. 7, 2024 (2G, 27A).

Additionally, his 35 points (8G, 27A) this month trail only Mario Lemieux’s 38 points in October of 1988 and his 36 points in October of 1992 for the most in a single October in NHL history.

Nugent-Hopkins, meanwhile, is on a three-game point streak (2G, 3A) and has seven points (3G, 4A) through his first five games played this season. Now with 294 career goals, he is just two goals shy of tying Ryan Smyth (296) for the seventh most in franchise history.

This is his first multi-goal game of the season and 38th of his career (one shy of tying Paul Coffey (39) for the eighth most in franchise history), along with his third multi-point game of the season and 191st of his career.
