Bio

Michael McLeod

McLeod scored the first and ultimately the game-winning goal for the New Jersey Devils in a 4-0 victory against the New York Rangers in Game 7 of the 2023 Eastern Conference First Round. He the second player in Devils/Colorado Rockies/Kansas City Scouts history to score a short-handed goal in a Game 7, exactly 31 years to the date when Pat Conacher (1992 DSF) so against the Rangers in the 1992 Patrick Division Semifinals. He was also the fourth player in franchise history to score his first Stanley Cup Playoff goal in a Game 7 (Adam Henrique, Mike Rupp, Tommy Albelin).

McLeod signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Devils on July 1, 2023.

McLeod was selected by the Devils with the No. 12 pick at the 2016 NHL Draft after he scored 61 points (21 goals, 40 assists) in 57 games for Mississauga of the Ontario Hockey League. He signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Devils on Oct. 7, 2016 and played two more seasons in the OHL before joining Binghamton of the American Hockey League after his 2017-18 junior season ended and had one assist in six games.

He made his NHL debut against the Washington Capitals on Nov. 30, 2018 and got his first point, an assist, at the Rangers on March 9, 2019.

On the international stage, McLeod represented Canada twice at the IIHF World Junior Championship; it finished second in 2017 and won the tournament in 2018.

McLeod's younger brother, Ryan, is a center in the Edmonton Oilers organization and was a second-round pick (No. 40) in 2018.
