This will be Carpenter's second stint with San Jose, having previously spent parts of five seasons in the organization from 2013-14 to 2017-18. In 28 NHL games with the Sharks, he has recorded five points (two goals, three assists) along with six penalty minutes and a plus-six rating. In 206 AHL games in the Sharks system with the Barracuda and Worcester Sharks, Carpenter has compiled 130 points (44 goals, 86 assists), 105 penalty minutes and a plus-42 rating. He helped the Barracuda reach the Western Conference Finals in the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs and led the club with 17 points (nine goals, eight assists) in 15 postseason appearances. With the Barracuda, Carpenter was also the winner of the 2015-16 Yanick Dupré Memorial Award, awarded to the individual who "best represents the spirit of Yanick Dupré with his involvement in the community."
