Olausson will be the only member of his draft class to compete in the Rookie Faceoff and he will be joined by two players selected in 2020 (Justin Barron, No. 25 overall; Jean-Luc Foudy, No. 75), five from 2019 (Bowen Byram, No. 4; Alex Newhook, No. 16; Alex Beaucage, No. 78; Sasha Mutala, No. 140; Trent Miner, No. 202), two in 2018 (Justus Annunen, No. 64; Sampo Ranta, No. 78) and one each from the 2016 (Nate Clurman, No. 161) and 2017 classes (Nick Henry, No. 94).
Six players on Colorado's 2021 roster were also on the team's 2019 squad in Anaheim. That list includes forwards Beaucage, Bowers, Henry and Mutala, defenseman Byram and goaltender Miner. Henry and goaltender Annunen also participated in the tournament in 2018 in Vegas.
The Avalanche rookies will play three exhibition games over the course of four days, Sept. 17-20, at Ice Den Scottsdale. The Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks and Vegas Golden Knights are all sending top prospects to the annual showcase.
