Nemeth previously spent two seasons with the Avalanche from 2017-2019 after being claimed on waivers from the Dallas Stars on Oct. 3, 2017 and produced 25 points (4g/21a) and a +32 rating in 142 games with Colorado. The 6-foot-3, 228-pound rear guard finished the 2017-18 campaign with a +27 rating, tied for the fifth-best plus/minus rating for a defenseman in Avalanche history (since 1995-96). Nemeth also ranked first on the team with 185 blocked shots that season and set career highs in goals (3), assists (12) and points (15). He skated in a career-best 74 games the following year (2018-19).
The Stockholm, Sweden, native recorded a career-high 11 blocked shots on Dec. 23 at Arizona, the second-most ever by an Avalanche player in a single game (12, Brett Clark, Nov. 6, 2009 vs. Chicago). He tallied his first career NHL goal on Nov. 2, 2017 vs. Carolina.
Nemeth also appeared in 13 playoff games during his time with Colorado, tallying one point (0g/1a). During the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he led the team in average ice time (23:42) and hits (20).
A second-round draft selection (41st overall) of the Stars in the 2010 NHL Draft, Nemeth has accumulated 56 points (7g/49a) in 353 career NHL games with Dallas, Colorado and Detroit and has appeared in 18 postseason contests. He spent the first four seasons of his North American professional career in Dallas's organization, also recording 28 points (5g/23a) and a +30 plus/minus rating in 104 career AHL contests with the Texas Stars. The blueliner added six points (1g/5a) in 21 total postseason outings and helped Texas win the 2014 Calder Cup as AHL champions.
Prior to playing professional hockey in North America, Nemeth skated four seasons in the Swedish Hockey League, all for AIK. He spent two full campaigns with AIK in Sweden's top league, notching 10 points (1g/9a) in 84 games from 2010-2012.
Internationally, Nemeth represented his country at the 2011 and 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships, combining for six points (0g/6a) in 12 contests and helping Sweden earn a gold medal at the 2012 tournament, snapping a 31-year drought for the country.
