Following a fruitful year filled with championship victories, the Mile High City has received a new nickname as a result, "Hockey Capital USA."

The City of Denver commemorated the triumphant year of hockey victories from the Colorado Avalanche, University of Denver (DU) Pioneers, Denver East Hockey and Pee-Wee Jr. Avs on Oct. 6 in front of the iconic Union Station.
Representatives from each team including Avalanche General Manager Chris MacFarland, forward Logan O'Connor and Bernie the mascot, joined Denver Mayor Michael Hancock outside of the downtown landmark in unveiling a large hockey puck sculpture that includes all names of all 88 players from the respective championship-winning teams.
It was a spirited celebration to applaud the respective teams on their incredible efforts and a positive send off as the upcoming hockey season nears in the coming weeks.
For the Avalanche, who concluded their preseason slate last night, the regular season officially begins next Wednesday on Oct. 12 against the Chicago Blackhawks. The team will hoist their 2022 Stanley Cup Championship banner before embarking on their journey to defend their title.
