The Avs' annual summer camp begins today with medical and physical testing before the players hit the ice for the first of three skating days on Tuesday at the team's practice facility, Family Sports Center, in Centennial. There will be morning and afternoon sessions for the first two days before camp concludes with just a morning skate on Thursday. All practices are free and open to the public to watch.
Five members of the Avalanche's 2016 draft class will also take part in the camp, including forward Tyson Jost, who was the 10th overall selection that year. Jost made his NHL debut with the club on March 31 and scored his first goal on April 6. He'll join fellow forwards Travis Barron and Cam Morrison as well as defenseman and Boulder, Colorado, native Nate Clurman and goaltender Adam Werner, who were also drafted by the team that year.
The Avs have eight camp invites this year, highlighted by forward Brady Shaw. The Ottawa, Ontario, native finished up his collegiate career at the University of Vermont last season, tallying 19 points (eight goals and 11 assists) before joining the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League on an amateur tryout for six games at the end of the campaign.
