Timmins, 18, has 74 points (11 goals and 63 assists) in 127 career regular-season games over the past two years with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. He scored seven goals and 54 assists in 67 contests this past year before adding eight points (goal and seven assists) in 11 playoff outings.
In his rookie campaign in 2015-16, Timmins registered 13 points (four goals and nine assists) to finish second among first-year players on the team in scoring.
"I think I'm a two-way defender. I think my hockey IQ is probably my biggest strength," Timmins said. "I can make plays offensively, make a good first pass and play strong defense as well."
The Thorold, Ontario, native was rated as the 18th-best North American skater on NHL Central Scouting's final list.
