The Langhorne, Pennsylvania, native played four seasons at Penn State University from 2016-2020, finishing his career as the program's all-time leader in games played/started (133), wins (76), saves (3,685) and shutouts (four) while ranking second all-time in goals-against average (2.88) and save percentage (.907). His 42 career victories in the Big Ten are a conference record while his eight tournament victories rank second all-time.
Jones set a career high in save percentage (.917) in his senior season in 2019-20 and matched a career best in goals-against average (2.60). The 6-foot-4, 210-pound netminder set a school record with 23 wins as a freshman during the 2016-17 campaign, recording a .904 save percentage and 2.60 goals-against average to earn All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and All-Freshman Team accolades. Jones led the Nittany Lions to their first-ever Big Ten Tournament championship that year, getting named the Big Ten Tournament's Most Outstanding Player and earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Before attending Penn State, Jones played two seasons for the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League from 2014-2016. He posted a 21-23-2 record in 59 regular-season contests with a 2.94 goals-against average, .904 save percentage and four shutouts. Jones also appeared in four postseason contests, going 1-3 with a 2.16 goals-against average, .935 save percentage and one shutout.
