Tynan, 28, has tallied 47 points (5g/42a) in 42 games for the American Hockey League's Colorado Eagles this season and has appeared in 16 contests for the Avalanche, notching one point (0g/1a). A third-round selection (66th overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2011 NHL Draft, Tynan leads all Eagles skaters in points and is tied for second in the AHL in assists. He was named to the 2020 AHL All-Star Classic.

The Orland Park, Illinois, native has produced 313 points (63g/250a) in 409 career AHL regular-season games with the Springfield Falcons, Lake Erie/Cleveland Monsters, Chicago Wolves and the Eagles and led the league in assists (59) during the 2018-19 campaign. He has 21 points (3g/18a) in 42 total postseason contests and won the Calder Cup with Lake Erie in 2016.
Tynan played four seasons of college hockey at the University of Notre Dame, where he is tied as the program's all-time leader in games played (164) and finished his career with 161 points (54g/107a). As a freshman for the Fighting Irish in 2010-11, he led the team with 54 points (23g/31a) in 44 contests, earning CCHA Rookie of the Year and National Rookie of the Year honors. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound center played one season with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League in 2009-10 and finished with 72 points (17g/55a) in 60 outings, leading the league in assists. Tynan earned a spot in the USHL All-Star Game and was named to the league's All-Rookie Team.
Internationally, Tynan represented his country at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, registering four points (1g/3a) in six appearances.
