Colorado Avalanche prospects Cale Makar and Conor Timmins won the gold medal with Team Canada at the 2018 World Junior Championship on Friday with a 3-1 victory over Sweden at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
After a scoreless first period, Canada found the back of the net at the beginning of the second frame to take the lead, but the squad gave up a short-handed goal to go into the second intermission tied at 1-1.

Canada netted the game-winning tally with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. Timmins assisted on the marker by firing the puck toward the net for Tyler Steenbergen to redirect it past the Swedish netminder.
Timmins finished the tournament with one goal and four assists, and Makar was the lone Canadian named to the All-Star Team, as voted on by the media.

Next year, the tournament will be held on the Canadian West Coast for the first time since 2006. The 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship will be in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.
