Zhuravlyov, 18, spent most of the 2017-18 campaign with Irbis Kazan in the Russian junior league where he had 18 points (nine goals and nine assists) in 28 games. He also appeared in 11 contests with Bars Kazan in Russia's second-tier pro league, registering a goal and an assist.
The Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, native represented his country at the 2018 IIHF U18 World Championship, picking up five assists in five games. He was also on Russia's squad at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and World Junior A Challenge.
Zhuravlyov also helped his country win a bronze medal at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
The 146th overall selection was acquired by the Avalanche in a trade earlier in the day with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Colorado also received pick No. 64 (Justus Annunen) from Pittsburgh in exchange for the team's second-round selection at No. 58 overall.
