With Landeskog on injured reserve, the Avalanche had two open roster spots. Henley and Bourque will fill those as the club looks for an infusion of vigor in the midst of a three-game losing skid.
"We're exploring the possibility of recalling a guy or two today [to] try to get some of that energy and passion into our lineup," Bednar said. "Our team feels like we've squandered a little bit of an opportunity here with three home games and only one point to show for it so far, but we have two more at home and the road doesn't get any easier. You have a Columbus team coming in here that's on top of its game and they're rolling. They play with speed and they come at you hard, so we have to be ready for that one."
Henley, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound forward from Val-d'Or, Quebec, has never been recalled to the Avs since signing as a free agent on May 5, 2014. He has four points (one goal, three assists) in 19 games with San Antonio this season.
Bourque, who signed with Colorado after participating in training camp on a professional tryout basis, spent parts of the past five seasons playing for the Nashville Predators. The 26-year-old forward has five points (two goals, three assists) in 11 AHL games this year.
Both could be in the lineup on Thursday when the Avalanche takes on the Columbus Blue Jackets at Pepsi Center. According to Bednar, goaltender Semyon Varlamov will get the start, but between the recalls and the absence of Jarome Iginla (maintenance) at practice, there has been no determination on the final composition of the line pairings.
"We didn't have Iginla on the ice, so depending on what plays out later today, we're bound to have some changes in our lineup," said Bednar. "He got a little banged up last night, took a shot to the ankle, I think, a stick in the back. He's a guy who's playing hard for us and having him for the game is the most important thing. So he took a day off from practice."
