Alex Beaucage was selected by the Colorado Avalanche at No. 78 overall in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver, British Columbia. A 6-foot-1, 193-pound forward, he was the fifth selection the Avalanche made at the annual event.
Beaucauge has spent the last two seasons playing with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Last season, the right wing recorded 79 points (39 goals and 40 assists) in 68 regular-season games before producing 16 points (five goals and 11 assists) in 16 postseason contests to help the Huskies win the QMJHL title. Beaucage also registered two points (goal and assist) in five outings as Rouyn-Noranda won its first-ever Canadian Hockey League title at the Memorial Cup.

The 17-year-old first joined Rouyn-Noranda in 2017-18 and went on to produce 37 points (13 goals and 24 assists) in 56 games in his rookie season. He also played for Canada Black at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and had three points (two goals and one assist) in five contests.
Beaucage recently talked with ColoradoAvalanche.com about his championship season, spending his early childhood in Germany and his being drafted by the Avs.
What was last season like winning the Memorial Cup and the QMJHL title last season?
"It was pretty special, even at the start of the year we knew we had a good team. The coaches made good trades at Christmas to help the team too. After Christmas, our confidence level was pretty high, but it always tough during the playoffs. In the first round of the playoffs, we had some difficulties, but we passed through them and just played well."
You were one of the youngest draft-eligible players, did you think about your age at all?
"I don't think too much about that. This year I was with an older group of guys on our team, so I think my maturity level went up a lot this year. Even if I was one of the youngest in the draft, I did not really think too much about it."
What was your draft experience like overall?
"It was really exciting. My parents and I were really stressed, it was a long day and a long night before it. I was really happy to come here, and I am looking forward to getting started."
Had you been to Colorado before development camp?
"No, it was my first time to Colorado. I've been to the east part of the United States, but never to Colorado. Coming in we saw the Denver Broncos stadium, it's pretty big. I'm pretty excited to be here."

What are your plans for this summer and the upcoming season?
"It should be a big summer. Going back to Rouyn-Noranda in the fall, I will have a bigger role. Our team will be younger, so it will be my role to be a leader on that team and help the younger guys on the team."
You moved to Germany as a baby for your father's hockey career, what was it like to live there as a child?
"One week after being born I went to Germany. It was pretty good for me--I spent my first seven years there. It was a lot, being there with another language, German's not the same at all as French, but it was pretty special. After that, coming back to Canada was pretty fun too to meet new friends and French school was really nice."
What are you most excited for being a part of the Avalanche organization?
"Just getting to be a better player. It's a great organization, they have a lot of history. It's really exciting, they have big names on the team like (Nathan) MacKinnon and in the past like Joe Sakic. It is really exciting to be drafted by the team."
Who do you think your game resembles in the NHL today?
"I would say Filip Forsberg for Nashville. I think he is a good offensive player. The way he plays on offense is really similar to me--the way we shoot the puck, the way we take it up the ice."
