November is Hockey Fights Cancer month throughout the NHL and despite the unprecedented timing of this offseason, the Colorado Avalanche and the league are still bringing awareness to hockey's biggest fight.
After the Avs hosted their annual Hockey Fights Cancer game last season, Kroenke Sports Charities auctioned off limited edition HFC lavender warmup jerseys, and $20,000 that was raised from the auction was donated to American Cancer Society Colorado to support patient services, including Road To Recovery.

Road To Recovery is a program that helps provide transportation to and from treatment for people with cancer that do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves.
This year, the Road To Recovery program totaled 2,096 trips in Colorado and had 26 new volunteers recruited. Although the program was halted earlier in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization was still able to utilize nearly all of the $20,000 donation from Kroenke Sports Charities.
Rose is one of the people who has been able to receive support from the program. When she found out her cancer returned for the second time, she experienced depression, anger, anxiety and isolation. With expensive treatments on her mind, her thoughts tended to gravitate towards medical bills, house bills and appointments, and Road To Recovery was able to provide her a critical service to keep her focused on her fight.
"I was going to be in trouble if distracted, sleepy and feeling sick," Rose said of the thought of driving.

One of the benefits of the program for Rose was sharing stories and laughing with the Road To Recovery volunteers and the program was able to provide for all of Rose's requests.
The NHL and NHL Players' Association are undeterred by the absence of hockey this November and remain steadfast in their commitment to support Hockey Fights Cancer. Together, the hockey community looks to inspire hope and courage for those who are living with, going through and moving past cancer.
Due to public safety concerns related to COVID-19, the American Cancer Society is not currently setting up or coordinating patient rides to cancer-related appointments however many patient service programs continue and are in need during this unprecedented time.
