Postgame Wrap-Up: Jost Records Three-Point Night Versus Jets

In his fifth game back with the Colorado Avalanche after recording five points in an eight-game stretch in the American Hockey League, Tyson Jost is showing what he is capable of.
Jost has four points in five games since being recalled on Feb. 11 and had a career-high three points (one goal, two assists), his sixth multi-point outing in the NHL, in the Avalanche's 7-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets at Pepsi Center on Wednesday.

The second-year forward also scored in Colorado's previous game on Monday against the Vegas Golden Knights and now has goals in consecutive games for the first time since he recorded three goals in two outings from March 30 to April 1, 2018. He also has points in consecutive contests for the first time since Nov. 27-28.
"It is definitely nice to be back in the win column," said the St. Albert, Alberta, native. "We are putting up wins right now and getting more consistent, so I mean that feels better than the individual [points] right now. It is fun when we are putting wins together, so we got to keep that rolling right now."

In the game against Vegas, Avs head coach Jared Bednar shuffled his forward combinations and he utilized those same units again versus Winnipeg. The shake up including putting Jost on a line with veteran forwards Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Calvert, a move that Bednar says has aided Jost.
"Here is what I think is helping [Jost]--and I think it is helping Mikko on the Nieto line--there is a predictability to the game within our structure," said Bednar. "They see lots of video but those guys, Nieto and Soderberg, are real predictable guys, but they are hard to play against… That has helped Mikko, and it is the same thing with Tyson.
"Landeskog and Calvert, they are hard in the battles. They are winning puck battles, so they have the puck. They are disciplined in the way they play and which areas of the ice they head to and when they are heading there... I think he needs a little of that, he needs some of that predictability."
Through 48 games this season, the 20-year-old forward has 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists). He is three points away from matching his points totals from his rookie season last year when he notched 22 points (12 goals, 10 assists) in 65 outings.
"He is always such a hard worker, but I just feel like he is hard on himself and he expects big things of himself and works hard in the offseason to try and get that in the season," Bednar said of Jost. "But you have to still as a young player that is learning, you still got to be able to turn the page and reset and be confident in your ability and be confident in your work ethic and you got to do all the right things. Confidence is earned, it is from practicing the right way and getting prepared the right way and being mentally ready to compete. I feel like he always does that, but I also feel like he worries about it a little bit."

MacKINNON HITS 30:Nathan MacKinnon registered his 30th goal of the season on a power play just 59 seconds into the third frame.
Landeskog also netted his 30th of the year last Thursday in Winnipeg, making this season the first time the Avalanche has had two 30-goal scorers since 2006-07 when Joe Sakic (36) and Milan Hejduk (35) accomplished the feat.

The Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lightning are the only other teams with two 30-goal scorers this season.
This also marks the ninth season in franchise history that the Avalanche/Nordiques have had multiple 30-goal scorers within their first 60 games. The only other such season since the club relocated to Colorado was 2000-01 (Joe Sakic and Milan Hejduk).
MacKinnon is the first player to hit the 30-goal mark in back-to back seasons since Joe Sakic recorded 30 or more in three straight campaigns from 2003-04 to 2006-07.
GREER NETS FIRST IN THE NHL: A.J. Greer scored his first NHL goal, the sixth Avalanche player this season to record his first marker and second in as many games.
Andrew Agozzino registered his first on Monday against Vegas while Dominic Toninato netted his on Feb. 14 at Winnipeg. Sheldon Dries and Vladislav Kamenev both accomplished the feat on Nov. 1 at the Calgary Flames, while Ryan Graves scored his first on Jan. 4 versus the New York Rangers.

"It is great, it really is cool to see and I think we all know what it feels like and we all can relate to how exciting that is," captain Gabriel Landeskog said. "Seeing the pure joy on Aggy's face last game and then Greersy's tonight, it really is great to see and something that I think everybody can relate to in here."
It's the most players the Avs have had tally their first NHL goal in a season since the 2010-11 campaign (seven).
NIETO-SODERBERG-RANTANEN LINE: Carl Soderberg has centered Matt Nieto and Mikko Rantanen for Colorado's past two games, and the trio combined for the first two goals and six points (two goals, four assists) against Winnipeg.
Soderberg registered the first tally of the contest and added two assists to match his career high for points in a outing (seven times, last on Feb. 9 at the New York Islanders). He also had a career-high plus-4 rating.

Rantanen scored his 25th goal of the season at 11:21 of the second period to increase his career points total to 199 points and the score of the game to 2-0. It was the eventual game-winning tally, the ninth of his career.
Nieto notched an assist and has four points (four assists) over his last four outings. His seven assists in the month of February leads the Avalanche, and he is tied with Landeskog for the team lead in points this month (seven).
"The lines are kind of all over the place, but everyone is playing hard and playing good together," said Nieto. "The combinations are meshing really well, and it is always nice when you can get scoring throughout the lineup. So everyone should be feeling confident. We got some huge games this weekend, so hopefully we can keep that rolling."
TEAM NOTES: The Avalanche matched a season high with seven goals (twice, last on Jan. 19 vs. Los Angeles). It's also the 11th game this season that Colorado has scored six or more goals, tied with the Calgary Flames for the second-most such efforts this season (Tampa Bay, 15).
Nathan MacKinnon and Matt Calvert's third-period goals, scored 11 seconds apart, are the fastest two goals scored by the Avalanche this season and two seconds shy of the franchise record (nine seconds, four times--last on April 7, 2015 versus Nashville).
The Avalanche has now won three of its last four contests and has gained points in five of its last eight outings. Colorado is 2-2-0 against the Jets this season with one game remaining between the clubs, April 4 in Denver.
The Avalanche scored five or more goals in the 3rd period for just the third time since the franchise relocated to Denver in 1995-96. The Avs scored six times in the third on March 3, 1999 at Florida and five goals in the final frame on Oct. 19, 1996 vs. Vancouver.
Gabriel Landeskog notched an assist and now has 60 points this season, the third Avalanche player to reach the 60-point threshold in 2018-19. Colorado is one of five teams to have three players register 60 points in 2018-19 (Tampa Bay, Chicago, Calgary, Pittsburgh). Landeskog now has five points (four goals, one assist) in four games against the Jets this season.
Matt Calvert scored and now has goals in consecutive games for the first time since Dec. 14-15. His 10 tallies this season are his most since the 2017-17 campaign with Columbus (also 10).
Samuel Girard finished with a plus-4 rating, a new career high.
