Ahead of his fifth NHL All-Star Game, Blackhawks defensemen Seth Jones joined the latest episode of the Blackhawks Insider Podcast this week. He discussed growing up with his brother, Caleb, the experience of being on the same team, and who's the best at pick-up basketball on the team, among other things.
At the end of the day, regardless of when the brothers played on different teams, it's a pretty spectacular feat to have a pair of brothers in the NHL.
"I think we take it for granted, to be honest," Jones said on the episode. "Because it hasn't happened that many times. You don't really think about it every day, even when he was in Edmonton, to think about 'Wow, my brother is in the NHL,' it doesn't really settle in until you really take a step back and look at the bigger picture of life."

When Caleb played in Edmonton and Seth was in Columbus, their mother, Amy Jones, had a special jersey that supported both of them.
"When she went to see Caleb play in Edmonton, she saw someone with a [split] two-player jersey," Seth said. "He made her one [with our Edmonton and Columbus jerseys], and that was pretty cool, she got to rock it a few times."
Now both in Chicago for the second straight season, the brothers spend much more time together - and sometimes fight like siblings as well.
"We have fun with each other. Say I go and make a mistake, I'll come back to the bench and he'll be like, 'You know, maybe you should make [a different] play next time.' I'm like, 'Thanks. Thanks, man,' " Seth joked. "And now, and he goes and makes a play - I'll say, 'Hey, I just make a harder play there.' But so we go back and forth a little bit, which is fun. [But] we're just trying to make each other better."
From day one, the Jones brothers were able to have great support from Amy as well as their father - former NBA player and current Denver Nuggets assistant coach Popeye Jones.
Given their dad's forte, both of the Jones brothers have a pretty good basketball game, even if they only get to play pickup now and then.
A few months back, the Blackhawks players had a Halloween party where they played some pick-up basketball games, Jones said - and some teammates were pretty good for hockey players.
"Kaner's got a pretty good [free throw], there are some guys with a decent game," he said. "[Andres Athanasiou]'s got a good game, [Max Domi] as well, so there are some good shooters on our team for sure."
Given that neither of the Jones' parents had a hockey background, the brothers actually began taking skating lessons from a figure skating coach. While their father was coaching in Denver, they began to skate.
"We wanted to play hockey, and my dad knew nothing about hockey, neither did my mom," he said. "[Our coach] was a figure skating, but we did a lot of edge work [in the lessons]."
Looking ahead to the All-Star week festivities, while Caleb may not be there to watch, mom Amy and his grandmother will be in attendance, further showing how important family is to the whole Jones family.
"They've been to every one, every All-Star game I've been to, so they always make that trip," Seth said. "They wouldn't miss it, and so I'll get to hang out with them a little bit when I [have time]."
