There's lots of new beginnings for the Blackhawks recently: a new head coach in Luke Richardson, new players incoming with the upcoming 2022 NHL Draft and new personalities to get to know during Development Camp next week.
But before all those new faces comes the schedule for the 2022-23 season, in which Chicago is slated to start the new year off with a bang on Oct. 12 against the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Colorado Avalanche. The first home game of the year comes just over a week later against old-time rival Detroit on Oct. 21.
Let's take a deeper dive into some takeaways and calendar-marking moments to look forward to this season.

BACK-TO-BACK TO BUSINESS

The Blackhawks' endurance will be tested quite a bit during the 2022-23 campaign, as the season starts off with a back-to-back assignment against Western Conference foes Colorado Avalanche on Oct. 12 and the Vegas Golden Knights the following night.
There are 14 back-to-backs on the schedule for the year, the majority of which (9) are either starting or finishing at the United Center. The month of February proves to be the heaviest stretch on paper, as a two-game set will be played each week of the month, excluding the first week for the All-Star break.

CONFERENCE CONTESTS

In terms of the 25 Central Division matchups set for the year, the Blackhawks have a relatively spread-out schedule, especially seeing as they don't meet up with rival St. Louis Blues until a month into the season on Nov. 16 at the UC.
However, the month of March will be stocked with high-intensity conference contests with eight games against fellow Central teams, starting off with the Dallas Stars at home on March 2. Later in the month, Chicago will head on a five-game road trip that includes 4 in-conference games, bookended by the Nashville Predators on March 16 and the Minnesota Wild on March 25.
Overall, the Blackhawks will play four games each against Arizona, Dallas, Minnesota, St. Louis and Winnipeg (two home/two away), while playing three games each against Colorado (one home/two away) and Nashville (two home/one away).

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

The Blackhawks will have plenty of opportunities to welcome in the holiday season at the United Center during the 2022-23 slate, as festivities start off with a three-game homestand beginning on Nov. 25 for a Black Friday matchup against the Montreal Canadiens.
Chicago will also kick off the holiday season as they host the New York Rangers on Dec. 18, the Nashville Predators on Dec. 21 and the Columbus Blue Jackets coming to town right before Christmas on Dec. 23.

THE HOME STRETCH

Chicago will feel the warmth of home sweet home to break in the new year, so mark your calendars for a seven-game homestand during the month of January. The Blackhawks will start off the stretch by welcoming the San Jose Sharks on Jan. 1 and will close out their stay at home a few weeks later against the Buffalo Sabres on Jan. 17.
