DRAFT: How Chicago's 2024 Draft Picks Were Acquired

We're less than two weeks away from the 2024 NHL Draft! It's time to get caught up with the eight picks the Blackhawks have heading into draft week and how each was acquired.

The first round of the draft kicks off on Friday, June 28 and continues with rounds 2-7 on Saturday, June 29.

2024 DRAFT PICKS

ROUND 1, PICK 2

• Chicago’s natural first-round selection as determined by the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery.

ROUND 1, PICK 18

• The Blackhawks acquired the No. 18 overall pick in a trade with the New York Islanders on May 24, moving up two spots in the first round and acquiring the No. 50 overall pick by sending the No. 20 overall pick (TB), the No. 54 overall pick (LA) and the No. 61 overall pick (VAN) to the Isles.

ROUND 2, PICK 34

• Chicago’s natural second-round selection.

ROUND 2, PICK 50

• The Blackhawks acquired the No. 50 overall pick, along with No. 18 overall, in a trade with the New York Islanders on May 24, sending the No. 20 overall pick (TB), the No. 54 overall pick (LA) and the No. 61 overall pick (VAN) to New York in exchange.

ROUND 3, PICK 67

• Chicago’s natural third-round selection.

ROUND 3, PICK 72

• Chicago acquired Ottawa’s natural third-round selection, along with first- and third-round picks in 2022 draft, in exchange for forward Alex DeBrincat on July 7, 2022.

ROUND 5, PICK 138

• Chicago acquired Calgary’s natural fifth-round pick in exchange for forward Ryan Carpenter on March 21, 2022.

ROUND 6, PICK 163

• Chicago’s natural sixth-round selection.

PREVIOUSLY HELD PICKS

• Round 1, Pick 20: Chicago acquired Tampa Bay’s 2024 first-round pick as part of the Brandon Hagel trade on March 18, 2022. The Blackhawks acquired 2023 and 2024 first-round picks, plus forwards Taylor Radish and Boris Katchouk, in exchange for Hagel and Chicago’s fourth-round picks in 2022 and 2024. Chicago traded the No. 20, No. 54 and No. 61 overall picks to the New York Islanders on May 24 for New York’s No. 18 overall selection.
• Round 2, Pick 54: The Blackhawks acquired LA’s second-round selection from the Philadelphia Flyers at last year’s draft, along with a sixth-round selection (used to select Milton Oscarson) in exchange for last year’s No. 51 overall pick. Chicago traded the No. 20, No. 54 and No. 61 overall picks to the New York Islanders on May 24 for New York’s No. 18 overall and No. 50 overall picks.
• Round 3, Pick 61: Chicago acquired the No. 61 overall pick and forward Jason Dickinson from Vancouver on Oct. 7, 2022 in exchange for blueliner Riley Stillman. The Blackhawks traded the No. 20, No. 54 and No. 61 overall picks to the New York Islanders on May 24 for New York’s No. 18 overall and No. 50 overall picks.
• Round 4, Pick 99: The Blackhawks sent their natural fourth-round pick in this year’s draft to Tampa Bay as part of the Brandon Hagel trade on March 18, 2022. The Blackhawks acquired 2023 and 2024 first-round picks, plus forwards Taylor Radish and Boris Katchouk, in exchange for Hagel and Chicago’s fourth-round picks in 2022 and 2024.
• Round 5, Pick 131: Chicago sent the highest of its fifth-round draft picks to Vancouver to acquire forward Anthony Beauvillier on Nov. 28, 2023.
• Round 5, Pick 151: The Blackhawks acquired a fifth-round pick from Nashville in exchange for forward Anthony Beauvillier on March 7, 2024. The pick was in turn sent to Toronto as Chicago’s lowest 2024 fifth-round draft pick as part of the trade sending Sam Lafferty and Jake McCabe to the Maple Leafs on Feb. 27, 2023. Chicago also sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to Toronto in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick, forwards Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev.
• Round 7, Pick 195: Chicago’s natural seventh-round pick was sent to Tampa Bay as part of a draft day trade on June 29, 2023.
