NEWS: Blackhawks Transfer 2022 1st Round Pick to Columbus

The Blackhawks have now officially sent their their natural first-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft to the Columbus Blue Jackets,
completing last summer's acquisition
of defenseman Seth Jones.
Chicago would've retained this year's first-round selection had they won the No. 1 or No. 2 overall pick in Tuesday night's NHL Draft Lottery. Instead, the Blackhawks' natural pick landed at No. 6 overall and now belongs to the Blue Jackets. The Blackhawks will now hold onto their first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
"Now we know where we stand as we prepare for the upcoming draft," General Manager Kyle Davidson said. "We won't have our own first-round pick, but with eight other picks -- including five in the first three rounds -- I have faith in our amateur scouting department's ability to make the most out of our selections this summer."

Chicago could still be have a first-round selection come July by virtue of the conditional first-round pick acquired from Minnesota at the trade deadline for Marc-Andre Fleury. If the Wild advance past the second round of the playoffs and Fleury is the netminder of record in four of their wins, the Blackhawks would be awarded Minnesota's first-round selection, ranging anywhere from No. 28 to No. 32 overall. If neither condition is met, Chicago would be awarded Minnesota's second-round pick in the upcoming draft.
The Blackhawks have eight total picks in the 2022 NHL Draft including five picks in the first three rounds.
The 2022 NHL Scouting combine, showcasing the top draft-eligible North American and international prospects, will be held from May 29 - June 4 at KeyBank Center and LECOM Harborcenter in Buffalo, N.Y.
The 2022 NHL Draft will take place at Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens, over two days. Round 1 will be held on Thursday, July 7, followed by Rounds 2-7 on Friday, July 8. For full coverage, visit
