PRESEASON FACEOFF
Chicago dropped a 4-2 decision to the Red Wings on Wednesday evening at the United Center. Craig Smith and Teuvo Teravainen both found the net for Chicago, with assists from Ryan Donato, Connor Bedard, and TJ Brodie. Teravainen, making his much-anticipated return to the Blackhawks, gave Chicago a brief lead midway through the second period, before the Red Wings responded with three unanswered goals. Petr Mrazek stopped 21 shots through two periods, while Mitchell Weeks finished the game in net for Chicago.
Detroit native Frank Nazar returns to his hometown tonight for the first time as a Blackhawk, while Arvid Soderblom will get his first chance to secure the backup goalie role with Laurent Brossoit sidelined. Several players, including Lukas Reichel, Landon Slaggert and Cole Guttman, are set to make their preseason debuts, while young players like Nazar, Kevin Korchinski and Nick Lardis will see action for a second straight game. Veterans Craig Smith and TJ Brodie will also return after contributing in Wednesday night's contest.
