Tarasenko tied things up at 4:24 of the final period of regulation. Just 22 seconds later, Chris Butler gave St. Louis a 4-3 edge.
Toews took the lead away from the Blues by burying his second goal of the evening nearly seven minutes into the third period. The captain went back to work in 3-on-3 overtime, notching the winner at 2:20.
THE CAPTAIN STAYS HOT:Toews received much praise for his training camp and preseason, which then carried over into the first game of the regular season. In game number two, Toews scored at 18:30 of the first to cut the Blues lead in half. He went straight to the front of the net and played a puck that was originally shot by Erik Gustafsson. He deposited it in the back of the net for his second goal of the season. He scored the big equalizer at 6:59 of the third when he spun and buried a rebound from out in front. A breakaway goal 2:20 into overtime was the icing on the cake in this one. The captain is off to a brilliant start to 2018-19.

KANE'S MULTI-POINT NIGHT:After his goal and an assist outing in Ottawa, Kane posted another multi-point evening in St. Louis. Kane's goal early was a nice display of patience, followed by a rising, top-shelf shot. He then earned an assist when his shot was finished off by Kruger in the second.

JOKIHARJU'S FIRST:Rookie defenseman Henri Jokiharju registered his first career NHL point with the primary assist on Toews' second goal of the game.
TALKING POINTS:
"A couple overtime wins is fun. We've played some good hockey. Obviously, Wardo has been big at times to keep us in some of those games. I think, as we've mentioned the last few days, there are always improvements we can make defensively, but I think there are great signs as far as our four lines playing well and just being heavier on the puck. Everybody wanted the puck and was creating offense. It's fun to sneak a couple out and get four points in our last two." - Toews on starting the season with two wins
"You think about the score. He scored a huge goal at the end of the first period where he all of the sudden got us back in the game. He scores obviously a huge goal to tie the game, and then the winner - a bigger one. You look at all three and the importance of them and what he did on each play, it was a lot of workmanlike work on each shift but he ended it with being around the net and then obviously it was great finish on the breakaway." - Joel Quenneville on Toews' hat trick
WHAT'S NEXT:The Blackhawks have their home opener on Sunday when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs at 6 p.m. CT.
