The Chicago Blackhawks today announced that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Jake McCabe on a four-year contract that run through the 2024-25 season ($4,000,000 salary cap hit).
McCabe, 27, notched three points (1G, 2A) in 13 regular-season games with the Buffalo Sabres last season. He was an alternate captain for the Sabres in each of the past two seasons. McCabe posted career highs in assists (17), points (20) and blocks (114) and time on ice per game (20:42) in 76 games during the 2016-17 campaign.

The University of Wisconsin alum was drafted by Buffalo in the second round (44th overall) of the 2012 National Hockey League Draft. In 353 career regular-season games with the Sabres, McCabe registered 77 points (18G, 59A).
The 6-foot-1, 204-pound blueliner has recorded a career-high four goals in two separate seasons (2015-16 and 2018-19). McCabe has logged over 100 hits in a season three times, including a career-best 114 during the 2015-16 campaign.
On the international stage, the Eau Claire, Wisconsin native skated in the 2016 IIHF World Championship and was named a Top Three Player on Team USA. He finished the tournament with a goal and an assist in eight games. He appeared in eight games at the 2014 IIHF World Championship. Along with Seth Jones and Connor Murphy, McCabe captained the United States to a gold medal at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship. He was named to the tournament's All-Star Team after recording six points (3G, 3A) in seven games.
McCabe was named a 2014 CCM American Hockey Coaches Association First-Team West All-American and first-team All-Big Ten at Wisconsin. He was a Third-Team All-WCHA selection during his sophomore season.
