The Chicago Blackhawks today have hired longtime hockey operations executive Norm Maciver as Associate General Manager. Maciver was most recently the Director of Player Personnel for the Seattle Kraken, a position he held since Jan. 5, 2021. Maciver will report directly to General Manager Kyle Davidson.
"Bringing in Norm is the first of many hires we plan to make as we restructure our hockey operations," said Davidson. "I think it is important in this new hockey operations department to balance really strong knowledge in hockey with new and innovative thinking. Norm brings that institutional knowledge and is one of the best talent evaluators in the business-pushing the boundaries on new methods and techniques that we need here at the Blackhawks. Norm has been a big help to me throughout my career personally, but he also isn't afraid to share his opinion and that is something that I respect most about him. He's a great first step in building this out."

As associate general manager, Maciver will directly oversee the entire scouting operation. The Blackhawks have scouts in six countries, 12 states and six Canadian provinces including 10 professional scouts and 13 amateur scouts.
"Kyle and I have a great relationship and I believe in his vision for the team and the future of our hockey operations department," said Maciver. "I'm thankful to the Blackhawks for this opportunity and I'm anxious to get back to work in a place that has become home. In addition, I would like to thank Ron Francis and the Seattle organization for allowing me to be a part of the Kraken inaugural season."
Maciver was the assistant general manager for the Blackhawks for eight seasons, while also serving in various roles such as Director of Player Personnel and Director of Player Development during his 14 years with the club beginning in 2006. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015.
Prior to his first stint with the Blackhawks, Maciver spent two seasons (2003-04 and 2005-05) behind the bench as assistant coach with the Boston Bruins. He also had three years (2000-03) of experience as assistant coach with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.
In 12 seasons as a player in the National Hockey League, Maciver played 501 games and scored 285 career points (55G, 230A) with the New York Rangers, Hartford, Edmonton, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Winnipeg and Phoenix. He played four seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
