The Chicago Blackhawks today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Andreas Athanasiou (ahn-DRAY-uhs ath-ah-nah-SEE-yew) on a two-year contract that runs through the 2024-25 season ($4,250,000 salary cap hit).

Athanasiou, 28, finished the 2022-23 season tied for first on the Blackhawks with 20 goals and ranked third with 40 points (20G, 20A). The forward was tied for the team lead with four game-winning goals and ranked fifth with three power play goals, matching career highs in both categories. Athanasiou was also tied for fifth on the club with 20 assists. His 20 goals, 20 assists and 40 points are the second-most he's registered in his career, while he established a new career high with 81 games played in 2022-23.

At 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, Athanasiou has amassed 236 points (125G, 111A) in 459 career regular-season NHL games between the Detroit Red Wings (2015-20), Edmonton Oilers (2020), LA Kings (2020-22) and Blackhawks (2022-23). A native of London, Ontario, he has also skated in 15 career postseason games with Detroit, Edmonton and Los Angeles, recording two goals. Additionally, Athanasiou has played in 83 American Hockey League games with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the AHL affiliate to the Detroit Red Wings, earning 25 goals and 26 helpers. He was originally selected by the Red Wings in the fourth round (110th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
