RELEASE: Blackhawks Sign Defenseman Jack Johnson to One-Year Contract

The Chicago Blackhawks today announced the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Jack Johnson on a one-year contract that runs through the 2022-23 season ($950,000 salary cap hit).
Johnson, 35, won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche last season, totaling nine points (1G, 8A) in 74 regular season games and skating in 13 postseason contests.

"Jack provides the team with a strong veteran presence, good size and a competitive edge," said General Manager Kyle Davidson. "We're excited to have Jack join the organization and, coming off a Stanley Cup championship last year, he will strengthen our defensive group."
The 6-foot-1, 227-pound blueliner has played in 1,024 career NHL games since being drafted third overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005, compiling 312 points (72G, 240A) with the LA Kings (2007-12), Columbus Blue Jackets (2012-18), Pittsburgh Penguins (2018-20), New York Rangers (2020-21) and Avalanche (2021-22). He's totaled 21 points (5G, 16A) in 43 career playoff games. Johnson also served as an alternate captain during five of his seven seasons with the Blue Jackets.
Internationally, Johnson won a silver medal with Team USA in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and has played in five IIHF World Championships, serving as captain twice (2010, 2012) and alternate captain once (2011).
