RELEASE: Blackhawks Sign Jalen Luypen to Entry-Level Contract

The Chicago Blackhawks today announced the team has agreed to terms with forward Jalen Luypen (JAY-lehn LIGH-pihn) on a three-year entry-level contract that runs through the 2024-25 season ($859,166.67 salary cap hit).
Luypen set career highs in goals (29), assists (35) and points (64) in 66 contests with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League during the 2021-22 campaign. His 29 tallies ranked third on the club with his 35 assists and 64 points ranking fourth. He made his WHL postseason debut, registering nine points (4G, 5A) in 19 contests to help the Oil Kings win the 2022 WHL Championship. The 20-year-old also skated in the 2022 Memorial Cup last season, posting three points (1G, 2A) in three games.

"Jalen's overall game has made big strides over the past year, as shown by his and his team's success last season," said Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson. "His strong work ethic is what we're looking for in our prospects and that attitude is what will make a huge difference in the future."
The Kelowna, British Columbia native has played in 200 career WHL games, all with Edmonton, compiling 124 points (61G, 63A). Luypen was drafted by the Blackhawks in the seventh round, 216th overall, in the 2021 NHL Draft.
