There was no mincing words from head coach Jeremy Colliton after Tuesday's game in Dallas.
"They were good and we didn't have it tonight. Right from the start, they were sharper," he said.
The Blackhawks dropped a 6-1 game to the Stars. The home side got out to a 2-0 lead before Mattias Janmark scored the lone Chicago goal against his former team early in the second. From there, though, it was nearly all Dallas en route to a second straight Blackhawks loss.

"We didn't give ourselves a chance with how we started the game. I thought we had a decent push back the beginning of the second. Then we take a penalty in the offensive zone, they score. We've got to find a way to get through that and have another push. I think they got better and we didn't push back… We've got to realize what makes us good and find a way to bring it when we get another crack at these guys."

CHI Recap: Blackhawks lose in Kane's 1000th game

Here are three takeaways from the loss:

1KANE

Despite the scoreline, it was a night in Dallas that Patrick Kane won't soon forget.
Skating in his 1,000th NHL game, the winger became the seventh Blackhawk all-time to reach the milestone with the team and just the seventh U.S.-born player to hit 1,000 games and 400 goals scored -- the youngest ever to reach either mark.
"It's crazy that you get to 1,000 so quickly," he said before the game. "It seems like yesterday I was just starting in the league, or playing for the London Knights. So, it's amazing to get to this number. I feel very fortunate to play in the league for this long and for this many games."
His teammates welcomed him to the for warmups in style to mark the occasion, as well.

Sitting second in league scoring coming into the night (11G, 27A), Kane is showing no signs of slowing down, either, posting his highest points-per-game clip of his career (1.46) through the opening half.
"He's got a 1,000 more left, maybe," Colliton quipped pregame.

ONE-SIDED

Chicago opened their difficult six-game road trip -- featuring stops in Florida and Tampa to come -- with their most lopsided loss of the season, a five-goal defeat to the Stars. The 22 shots registered by the Blackhawks in the loss were the second fewest in a game to date this season.
It also marks the first time the team has lost back-to-back games in regulation since the opening road trip of the year.
"We just try and get back to what we're good at," Calvin de Haan said postgame. "We're not going to go 56-0 in this league. We've found a way to keep ourselves in games most of this season and maybe this one's just a one-off. I expect us to be better the next game. It's frustrating but the sun's going to rise tomorrow and I think we can learn from this game."
"It hurts losing games like that," Connor Murphy added. "No one likes it, it's no fun. Home or away, anytime of the year -- it hurts. Even if the whole game doesn't go well and you want to move on as quick as you can, you still want to take an edge with you into the next game."

FRIENDLY FOE

For the second straight game against his former team, Mattias Janmark found the scoresheet at the American Airlines Center. It was also the second straight game overall that Janmark scored, bringing his season total to nine in 27 games.
Janmark hit double-digits in his first two NHL seasons, 2015-16 and 2017-18, before tallying just six in each of his last two campaigns in Dallas.
