For the second straight matchup, the Chicago Blackhawks failed to find the back of the net after a 1-0 final against the Calgary Flames on Saturday night.
Boris Katchouk and Philipp Kurashev found some breakaway chances to try and end their scoreless streak but failed to sneak one past Flames’ netminder Jacob Markstrom. By the end of the night, the Blackhawks outshot the Flames, 32-31.
“It's obviously really frustrating when you do get looks and pucks [are] not going in,” Taylor Raddysh said. “As a whole group, we just got to find that extra little jumper or step just to be able to bang one home and get one by their goalie.”
Head coach Luke Richardson stated that he never witnessed a game where a team created so many breakaways but resulted in no goals in the end result.
As the team continues to struggle to find some offense, the second-year head coach noted that it can simply come down to how players approach their shots. Some players focus on little moves to try and create some chances instead of a simpler approach that can result in some goals.
Despite their recent losses, he hopes they can build off the positives they created and can grow from there as others return to the lineup.
“We got to keep playing like that, and they're going to drop,” Richardson said. “We'll start getting healthier and get some more help in that department. We’re playing the right way, so we're proud of how we're playing, but it's still the NHL, and we got to find results, somehow.”
Over the next week, the Blackhawks will partake in the NHL All-Star break that Kevin Korchinski feels will help the team regroup and come back to finish the season off strong.
“I think the break will be good for us [because we can] refresh and come back hungry to finish the year off hard,” Korchinski said.
