Blue Jackets Hockey League

The Blue Jackets Hockey League is a city-wide, local hockey program for boys and girls aged 5-14 years old. Eligible participants include players who have completed the Blue Jackets Learn to Play Hockey 1, 2, and 3 series or participated in a non-travel league in the past.

Ohio AAA Blue Jackets

In 2004, the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets were established and became the first amateur hockey organization to be directly affiliated with a National Hockey League franchise. The program currently fields eight boys teams that compete at the highest level of USA Hockey from 10U to 18U. In 2022-23, the girls program was launched with teams now competing at 12U, 14U, and 16U levels in 2023-24.

The Ohio Warriors Hockey Program is an affiliate of the USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program. These programs have been organized to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, for disabled veterans who served in defense of the United States. This program operates in conjunction with the USA Hockey Disabled Hockey Program. The Ohio Warriors Hockey Program’s mission is to organize and administer an ice hockey program that provides a recreational, therapeutic experience and education.

The Ohio Scholastic Hockey League (OSHL) previously known as the Greater Columbus High School Club Hockey League (GCHSCHL) is a USA Hockey sanctioned High School Combined Division league participating in the Mid American (MIDAM) District.

Chiller Adult Hockey League

The OhioHealth Chillers offer hockey leagues for adults 18 and over, for all skill levels from beginners to experienced players. Leagues run year round and include playoffs and championships. Players may sign up as individuals or as teams.

Since 1978, ice hockey has been an officially sanctioned sport by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA). Today, the OHSAA has more than 70 high schools with varsity hockey teams representing four districts. Each year, the four district winners play in the OHSAA Ice Hockey State Championship Tournament at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Within central Ohio, high school athletes participate in either the Capital Hockey Conference (CHC) or the Ohio Scholastic Hockey League (OSHL). The CHC was created in 2003 and is a member of the OHSAA. The OSHL is a USA Hockey sanctioned club league participating in the Mid American (MIDAM) District.

Hall of Hockey

The Hall of Hockey pays homage to more than 70 Varsity programs that compete for the Ohio High School Athletic Association Hockey State Championship Tournament played at Nationwide Arena. The jerseys are on display at the arena between sections 119-121.

OHSAA Ice Hockey State Championship Tournament

Since the spring of 2003, Nationwide Arena and the Columbus Blue Jackets have hosted the Ohio High School Athletic Association Ice Hockey State Championship Tournament. The state Semi-Final and Championship game are hosted on the main ice of Nationwide Arena. In 2018, the OHSAA and Nationwide Arena announced a 10-year partnership to keep the State Championship Tournament in Columbus through 2027.

High School Hockey Night

Each year, the Blue Jackets honor the local high school hockey community during High School Hockey Night. Representatives from local high schools are invited be recognized on the red line prior to the national anthem. In addition, the Blue Jackets host players, coaches and families at the game.

Blue Jackets Cup

The Blue Jackets Cup was established in 2002 to support central Ohio high school hockey. The Blue Jackets Cup is a four-division series of regular season ending tournaments for more than 40 high school hockey teams playing in the and the . The Blue Jackets honor the winning teams with an in-game recognition during a Blue Jackets home game.

Scholarships

Each season, the CBJ Foundation awards the John H. McConnell Scholarship and the High School Hockey Scholarships to local high school seniors. The scholarships recognize youngsters who have gone above and beyond to make the Central Ohio community a better place. In addition, the Paul Donskov Legacy Scholarship honors a true pioneer of Columbus hockey.

Member schools include Bishop Watterson, Cincinnati Moeller, Columbus Academy, Dublin Coffman, Dublin Jerome, Gahanna Lincoln, New Albany, Olentangy, Olentangy Berlin, Olentangy Liberty, Olentangy Orange, Springboro, St. Charles, St. Francis DeSales, Cincinnati St. Xavier, Thomas Worthington, Upper Arlington and Worthington Kilbourne.

Ohio Scholastic Hockey League

The Ohio Scholastic Hockey League (OSHL) is a USA Hockey sanctioned High School Combined Division league participating in the Mid American (MIDAM) District. The OHSL is made up of high school-aged students from central Ohio.

Member organizations include the Athens Bobcats, Colunbus Ice Hockey Club, Dayton Stealth, Dublin Irish, Hilliard Wildcats, Miami Red Hawks, Newark Generals, Northeast Storm, PHA Prowlers and Westerville Warcats.

Ohio is home to some of the top college hockey programs in the country, allowing men and women from all over the world the opportunity to compete at various levels while having the educational experience of being a student-athlete. Levels include National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). The NCAA is the highest level of college hockey, while schools in the ACHA offer competitive hockey at the club level.

NCAA DIVISION 1 PROGRAMS

OSU Men's Hockey

Established in 1963, the Ohio State men's hockey program competes out of Columbus in the Big Ten Conference. In 2017-18, the Buckeyes reached their first Frozen Four in 20 years, solidifying themselves as one of the top teams in the nation. In 2018-19, the Buckeyes captured their first Big Ten regular season championship.

OSU Women's Hockey

Established in 1999, the Ohio State women's hockey program competes out of Columbus in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The Buckeyes won their first NCAA championship in 2022 and won the WCHA tournament in both 2020 and 2022. Ohio State also made Frozen Four appearances in 2018, 2021 and 2023 under head coach Nadine Muzerall.

Miami University Men's Hockey

The Miami University Men's hockey program competes out of Oxford, Ohio in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). The RedHawks reached the Frozen Four in back-to-back years (2008 and 2009), and was the national runner-up in 2008.

Bowling Green State University Men's Hockey

The Bowling Green State University Men's hockey program competes out of Bowling Green, Ohio in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). In 1984, the Falcons reached the pinnacle of college hockey, winning the National Championship over Minnesota-Duluth in a four-overtime thriller, the longest NCAA DI Men's Ice Hockey Championship Game.
