What is Hockey Is For Everyone?

Hockey is for Everyone uses the game of hockey - and the NHL's global influence - to drive positive social change and foster more inclusive communities. We support any teammate, coach, or fan who brings heart, energy, and passion to the rink. We believe all hockey programs - from professionals to youth organizations - should provide a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for players and families regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status. Simply put, Hockey is for Everyone.

The Blue Jackets are proud to support NHL initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion in the game of hockey.

Willie O'Ree

The Columbus Blue Jackets join the National Hockey League in honoring the legacy of Willie O'Ree, who in 1958 broke the NHL color barrier. Willie's experience with racism and social justice still resonates today, and his lasting impact on the game and those he's inspired is a testament to his resilience and determination.

Willie provides historical context and depth to Willie O'Ree's journey as the first black player to skate in an NHL game. The film was produced by a team comprised completely of minority and women filmmakers.

We are proud to partner with the NHL and Classroom Champions to provide parents and teachers free resources to start an important conversation about equality with children.
