The Blue Jackets complete the exhibtion slate tonight with a true dress rehearsal game, as Columbus will ice its top players in Nationwide Arena against visiting Pittsburgh.
It could very well be a preview of what is to come when the Blue Jackets begin the regular season Thursday vs. Arizona, as most of the team's NHL players are in the lineup for the battle with the Penguins, who are also bringing an NHL-caliber roster.
But while head coach Brad Larsen says this will be something close to an NHL lineup, it doesn't mean the exact same 18 skaters will play when the Jackets host the Coyotes in five days (especially as someone like star defenseman Zach Werenski watches as Larsen takes one final look at a few of the defensemen battling to make the roster).
"It'll be more of an NHL lineup for sure," Larsen said Friday. "But still, final lineup? I'm not going to say that because it could change, too, by opening night. We're in that position where there's only so many spots and a lot of guys fighting to get those spots."
Also worth watching -- the game will mark the preseason debut of Max Domi, the forward who underwent shoulder surgery in June but has been back in contact drills this week.
The game will be streamed at BlueJackets.com and on the radio at 97.1 The Fan.
