SvoNotes: Robinson's big night
Trade deadline: Jarmo talks
Prospect Report: Denton Mateychuk

What They're Saying

With the deadline passing today, the Blue Jackets were sellers, sending veterans Vladislav Gavrikov, Joonas Korpisalo and Gus Nyquist out in the past few days.
A tough start to the season doomed the Jackets to that fate, and the team still boasts the lowest points percentage in the league going into tonight's contest against the Kraken. But Columbus has posted a 5-2-2 record in its last nine games after the win over the Sabres, a sign of improved play that is too little, too late to matter in the playoff race but it is nice for a young but learning CBJ team.
"I think guys are starting to gain more confidence," defenseman Nick Blankenburg said. "Obviously I feel like you would have wanted this maybe at the start of the year, 10 or 20 games in, and not, what are we, 60?
"I just think ever since the All-Star break, I think guys have just been gaining confidence as games have gone on. I think as a group we kind of understand what we have to do to make pushes and play against good teams."
The good teams part of that is true, as eight of the nine games in the team's stretch of good results have come against squads that are in playoff positions. Having had such a rough season, the Blue Jackets have been focused on seeing improvement as it's gone on, and it seems clear Columbus is getting better at handling the ebbs and flows of contests.
"I think we know the recipe," captain Boone Jenner said after the win over Buffalo. "You know, when we do it, we have success, and we did it for the most part tonight. We had some flaws in our game, but for the most part we played a structured game and got our offense off that."

Know The Foe: Seattle Kraken

Head coach:Dave Hakstol (Second season)
Season Stats:Goals per game: 3.49 (6th) | Scoring defense: 3.16 (17th) | PP: 19.8 percent (22nd) | PK: 73.9 percent (29th)
The narrative:After a difficult season a year ago ended in a last-place finish for the first-year Kraken, this year's squad is in a good spot when it comes to qualifying for its initial Stanley Cup Playoffs berth. The team's forte has been 5-on-5 play, with Seattle fourth in the NHL in goal-scoring ratio there, as well as a deep forward group that never really lets up or gives the opposing team a breather.
2022-23 leaders:Highlighting a few players is a bit unfair as the Kraken has 15 skaters with at least 20 points on the campaign as well as 12 double-digit goal scorers. Jordan Eberle is the leading point scorer with a 13-36-49 line, while Jared McCann leads the team in goals with 29 to go with 17 assists and 46 points. Defenseman Vince Dunn is next with 11 goals among his 45 points, while Matty Beniers leads all NHL rookies with 19 goals and 44 points.
In net, one could argue the Kraken maybe could have or should have made a move before the deadline with the team near the bottom of the NHL in save percentage. Martin Jones is the team leader in games (41) and starts (37) and is 24-10-3 with a 2.98 GAA but a .890 save percentage, while Philipp Grubauer is at 9-11-3/3.05/.894.
What's new: Seattle was 26-12-4 as of a Jan. 14 win over Chicago that gave the team an eight-game winning streak, but the squad is just 8-9-2 in its last 19 games over the past six weeks. Losing such players as Beniers (who is back healthy) and Andre Burakovsky (who is not) surely didn't help, and the team has been outscored 66-55 (3.47-2.89 per game) in that span.
Trending:Columbus won both games against Seattle in overtime during the Kraken's expansion season a year ago, but the Kraken took a 3-1 victory against the Jackets on Jan. 28 in Seattle in the series opener for the campaign.
Former CBJ:Seattle boasts two high-profile former Jackets in Alexander Wennberg and Oliver Bjorkstrand. Set to play his first game as an opponent in Nationwide Arena, Bjorkstrand has an 13-19-32 line this year, while Wennberg is right behind at 10-19-29.

3 Keys to the Game

Get it to special teams: OK, maybe we're joking here, but Seattle is one of the best teams in the league at 5-on-5 and has struggled on both the power play and PK. The Blue Jackets could exploit an advantage there.
Rest over rust: Seattle played an overtime game last night in Detroit -- won on Bjorkstrand's goal -- while Columbus has been off since Tuesday. Can the CBJ get an early jump?
Focus on the finish: The trade deadline will pass by the time the puck drops. While the playoffs are a pipe dream, there's not much to focus on from here on out except hockey.
