The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned defenseman Gabriel Carlsson to the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Carlsson, 21, has posted three assists and six penalty minutes in 17 career games with the Blue Jackets since making his NHL debut at the end of the 2016-17 campaign. He suited up in the Jackets' 2018-19 season opener, recording a shot and two penalty minutes on 9:21 of ice time. In 2017-18, Carlsson posted 0-2-2, four penalty minutes and an "even" plus/minus rating in 14 games with the club.
The Orebro, Sweden native has added 2-4-6 in 36 career AHL games with the Monsters, including 2-3-5 in 33 contests in 2017-18. He notched 3-12-15, eight penalty minutes and a +15 plus/minus rating in 92 career games with Linkoping in the Swedish Hockey League from 2014-17. The 6-5, 192-pound defenseman was selected with the club's second first-round pick, 29th overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft.
