The road to the NHL for James Fisher remains quite long, but the Boston-area native has already accomplished quite a bit.
Not many players get drafted out of high school, but the Blue Jackets saw enough in the 6-foot-2 wing that they grabbed him out of the Belmont Hill School in the seventh round of the 2022 draft this summer.

Fisher is continuing his career close to Columbus, as he has made his way to Youngstown, Ohio, where he plays in the USHL. So far this season, Fisher has posted two goals and an assist for three points in 12 games with the Phantoms.
After spending a year with Youngstown, he is expected to head back home to Northeastern to begin his college career. With excellent size paired with physicality and toughness in his game, Fisher projects as someone who could be difficult to play against as he moves up the ranks and hopefully joins the Blue Jackets down the road.
Get to know the wing both on and off the ice in this interview with Dylan Tyrer that debuted today as part of the Blue Jackets' Pipeline Podcast.

Monsters Faring Well

One has to tip their hat to first-year head coach Trent Vogelhuber of the Cleveland Monsters. Despite the fact many of Vogelhuber's top players have been called up to the Blue Jackets given the spate of injuries at the NHL Level, the Monsters remain in contention in the AHL.
Cleveland currently sits at 8-5-0-2 through 15 games, a mark of 18 points that ties the Monsters with Rochester for second place in the AHL North Division, three points behind leaders Toronto. The Monsters have points in their last six games with four victories and two shootout losses despite the fact three of the club's top six scorers and four defensemen are with Columbus at the moment.
The Monsters are coming off a notable week of games, including an 8-7 shootout loss Wednesday at Belleville, a 7-3 win Friday night at Laval and a 5-4 shootout loss Saturday against the Rocket.
Trey Fix-Wolansky, who was recalled Sunday, was just named the AHL's player of the week after posting a 5-5-10 line in three games, which extended his scoring run to seven goals and 14 points in the previous four games.
Fix-Wolansky scored twice in the 8-7 game vs. Belleville, which also included 1-2-3 nights from Carson Meyer and Justin Richards. Fix-Wolansky had two goals and five points in Friday's win at Laval, with Meyer adding a 1-3-4 line and 2022 first-round pick David Jiricek scoring his first two pro goals. Owen Sillinger then tallied twice and both Fix-Wolansky and Jiricek scored again in the Saturday shootout loss.
On the season, Fix-Wolansky's hot streak moved him into a tie for the AHL scoring lead with a 10-12-22 line in 14 games. Meyer isn't far behind with six goals and 18 points in 15 games, while Kirill Marchenko has eight goals and six assists for 14 points in 15 games.
Cleveland hosts the first-place Marlies this weekend with games Friday and Saturday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Dumais Update

At this point, we're probably just going to have to dedicate a section of every Prospect Report to tracking the ridiculous numbers of Jordan Dumais.
The Blue Jackets' third-round pick in the 2022 draft is now up to 19 goals and 48 points in 21 games for Halifax of the QMJHL after posting a hat trick and six-point night Friday against Saint John. The game was Dumais' third hat trick of the year and his second six-point performance in 11 days.
He was kept off the score sheet a night later by the Sea Dogs, just his third scoreless night of the season, but Dumais remains on pace for 156 points on the season. As The Daily Faceoff prospect reporter

, the last two QMJHL players to top 150 points were Sidney Crosby in 2004-05 and Alex Radulov in 2005-06.
Time will tell if Dumais can make it to that rarefied air -- if he were to miss time by making Canada's roster for the IIHF World Junior Championship, that might hurt -- but it's also fair to say he's continuing to have what could be a season for the ages.

Prospect Notes
  • We noted the successes of members of the 2022 draft class so far in this piece, but that group is looking pretty solid up and down thus far. Denton Mateychuk, like Jiricek a first-round pick, has a 5-14-19 line in 17 games while serving as captain with Moose Jaw of the WHL; second-rounder Luca Del Bel Belluz has a 12-12-24 line in 18 games with Mississauga of the OHL; fourth-rounder Kirill Dolzhenkov has 8-15-23 in 20 games with Krasniya Armiya in the Russian junior ranks; and fifth-rounder Sergei Ivanov has two scoreless appearances in net with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL.
  • Playing with one of the best players in the world is working out for Stanislav Svozil, as the 2021 third-round pick is posting a point per game this season with Regina of the WHL. Svozil has a 3-16-19 line in 19 games from the blue line this season, while presumed 2023 No. 1 overall pick Connor Bedard leads the Pats in scoring with a 19-29-48 line that matches' Dumais' production in Halifax.
  • 2021 first-round pick Corson Ceulemans is coming off a big weekend, posting a goal and an assist in both games of the University of Wisconsin's weekend series with Lindenwood. The defenseman now has a 3-6-9 line in 11 games this season.
  • We noted two weeks ago that 2019 fourth-rounder Dmitri Voronkov was getting into a groove after missing time with an injury, and the Ak Bars Kazan center now has points in five of his last seven games (1-4-5) at the KHL level.
