CBJ trade LW Markus Hannikainen to Arizona Coyotes

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired a conditional seventh round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for left wing Markus Hannikainen, Blue Jackets General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The club has also added forward Calvin Thurkauf to the roster on emergency recall from the Cleveland Monsters, the club's American Hockey League affiliate.
Hannikainen, 26, posted eight goals and seven assists for 15 points with 14 penalty minutes in 91 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets since making his NHL debut in 2015-16. The forward set NHL career highs with 4-3-7 in 44 contests in 2018-19. The Helsinki, Finland native has added 33-45-78, 48 penalty minutes and a +9 plus/minus rating in 143 career American Hockey League appearances with the Cleveland Monsters, including 7-11-18 and six penalty minutes in 28 outings with the club in 2019-20. He signed a two-year entry level contract as a free agent on Apr. 20, 2015.
Thurkauf, 22, recorded a hit and logged 8:01 of ice time in his NHL debut at Nashville last Saturday. He has set single-season career highs in assists, points and plus/minus rating with nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points with 37 penalty minutes and a +6 plus/minus rating in 47 contests with Cleveland this season. The Zug, Switzerland native has posted 22-29-51 with 101 penalty minutes in 148 career AHL games with the Monsters since making his professional debut in 2017-18. He was selected by Columbus in the seventh round, 185th overall, at the 2016 NHL Draft.
