The Columbus Blue Jackets trimmed their training camp roster by 19 players, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. There are currently 37 players in camp - 19 forwards, 12 defensemen and six goaltenders.
The Blue Jackets have assigned forwards Trey Fix-Wolansky, Maxime Fortier, Eric Robinson, Kole Sherwood, Kevin Stenlund and Calvin Thurkauf, as well as defensemen Gabriel Carlsson, Ryan Collins and Michael Prapavessis to the Cleveland Monsters, the club's American Hockey League affiliate. The club has also placed forwards Paul Bittner, Nathan Gerbe and Justin Scott on waivers for purpose of assignment to Cleveland. In addition, the Jackets have released forwards Derek Barach, Brett Gallant, Nikita Korostelev, Stefan Matteau, Bryan Moore and Sam Vigneault and defenseman Anton Karlsson from their pro tryout contracts. The group also is expected to report to the Monsters.
Columbus, 2-1-0 in preseason play, returns to action on Sunday at the St. Louis Blues. Game time from Enterprise Center is 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on Sports Radio 97.1 The Fan.
The Blue Jackets open their 19th regular season vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday, October 4. Game time from Nationwide Arena is 7 p.m. ET.
