The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated defenseman Nick Blankenburg off Injured Reserve and assigned defenseman Gavin Bayreuther to the Cleveland Monsters, the club's American Hockey League affiliate, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Blankenburg, 24, has missed the last three games with an upper body injury suffered at the NY Rangers on October 23. He has collected one goal and one assist for two points with two penalty minutes and eight shots, while averaging 16:04 of ice time in four games with the Blue Jackets this season.
The 5-9, 177-pound native of Washington, Michigan has totaled 2-3-5, six PIM and 21 shots in 11 contests with the Blue Jackets since making his NHL debut at the end of the 2021-22 season. He racked up 25-44-69, 62 PIM and was +52 in 133 career NCAA games at the University of Michigan from 2018-22, including 14-15-29 in 38 appearances while serving as captain in his senior season in 2021-22.
Bayreuther, 28, was recalled by the Blue Jackets on October 24 and finished with one hit and two blocked shots on 15:09 of ice time in his season debut vs. the Boston Bruins on October 28. The 6-1, 196-pound blueliner has posted 3-11-14 with 39 penalty minutes, 85 shots and a cumulative +1 plus/minus rating in 72 career games with the Blue Jackets and Dallas Stars since making his NHL debut in 2018-19. He has collected 1-8-9 and 29 PIM in 53 appearances with Columbus since being signed as a free agent on Oct. 9, 2020.
The Canaan, New Hampshire native has added 25-84-109, 120 penalty minutes and an "even" plus/minus rating in 220 career AHL games since making his professional debut at the end of the 2016-17 campaign. He has collected 0-3-3 and two penalty minutes in three outings with the Monsters in 2022-23.
The Blue Jackets return to action today when they visit the Colorado Avalanche in the first game of the 2022 Global Series in Tampere, Finland. Game time from Nokia Arena is 2 p.m. ET.
