Jenner, 29, who missed the final 23 games of the 2021-22 campaign due to a back injury, has returned to post 26 goals and 19 assists for 45 points with 51 penalty minutes, seven power play goals, three game-winning goals and 214 shots on goal in 68 appearances with the Blue Jackets this season. He leads the team in goals, game-winning goals (tied) and shots on goal, ranks second-T in power play goals and third in points despite missing 11 contests from December 19-January 12 due to a fractured thumb. He has posted the second-most goals and points in a single campaign in his career, trailing only the 30-19-49 registered in 82 contests in 2015-16.
The Dorchester, Ontario native has notched 170-159-329 with 382 penalty minutes, 36 power play goals and 1,635 shots in 657 NHL career appearances with the Blue Jackets since being selected in the second round, 37th overall, at the 2011 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2013-14, is in his second season as the club's captain and is the longest tenured Blue Jacket with 10 campaigns. Jenner skated in his 628th career game on January 28 at Seattle, surpassing Cam Atkinson (627) for the second-most games played in franchise history (Rick Nash; 674). He has also moved into third place on the franchise's all-time goals list and stands fourth in points.
The winner of the Masterton Trophy is selected by a poll of the 32 chapters of the PHWA at the conclusion of the regular season. The trophy was first presented by the NHL writers in 1968 in honor of the late Bill Masterton, a player for the Minnesota North Stars who exhibited the qualities for which the trophy embodies, and who died on Jan. 15, 1968. Last season's winner was Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens.
