CBJ LW Gustav Nyquist undergoes surgery to repair labral tear in shoulder

Columbus Blue Jackets left wing Gustav Nyquist underwent successful surgery Tuesday to repair a labral tear of his left shoulder and is expected to make a full recovery in five to six months, Blue Jackets General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The surgery was performed by Dr. Anthony Miniaci at the Cleveland Clinic.
"This was a chronic issue that Gus has been dealing with for a number of seasons," said Kekalainen. "He has been able to perform at a high level, but a cyst in the area developed over time that has inhibited his ability to continue to do so. As a result, surgery was the best course of action and we look forward to having him back at full strength this season."
Nyquist, 31, completed his first season as a Blue Jacket in 2019-20 after signing a four-year contract with the club in July 2019. He collected 15 goals and 27 assists for 42 points with 16 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating, while playing in all 70 regular season games in 2019-20. He ranked second on the club in assists and points and added 0-2-2 in 10 postseason games.
The Halmstad, Sweden native has registered 146-202-348, 144 penalty minutes and a cumulative +8 plus/minus rating in 570 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings. He made his NHL debut with Detroit during the 2011-12 season and spent seven-plus seasons with the organization before joining San Jose at the trade deadline in 2019.
