The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Billy Sweezey from the Cleveland Monsters, the club's American Hockey League affiliate, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Sweezey, 27, was recalled earlier this season from November 19-29, but did not appear in a game. He has registered four goals and 20 assists for 24 points with 189 penalty minutes and 110 shots on goal in 133 career AHL games with the Monsters and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins since making his professional debut in 2020-21. This season, he has tallied 0-9-9, 49 PIM and 34 shots in 41 games with Cleveland and ranks second on the club in penalty minutes.
A native of Hanson, Massachusetts, Sweezey signed a two-year, two-way NHL/AHL contract for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons with the Blue Jackets on Mar. 7, 2022. He recorded 3-26-29 with 159 PIM and was +16 in 127 career NCAA games at Yale University from 2016-20. The 6-1, 206-pound defenseman also spent parts of two seasons with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League from 2014-16, collecting 3-1-4 and 135 PIM in 58 appearances.
The Blue Jackets return to action on Sunday when they visit the Minnesota Wild. Game time from Xcel Energy Center is 2 p.m. ET. Live coverage on Bally Sports Ohio begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 1:30 p.m. The game may also be heard on the Blue Jackets Radio Network, including 105.7 FM in Columbus, and online at BlueJackets.com.
