The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Billy Sweezey from the Cleveland Monsters, the club's American Hockey League affiliate, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Sweezey, 26, has registered four goals and 16 assists for 20 points with 162 penalty minutes, 90 shots and a cumulative +4 plus/minus rating in 106 career AHL games with the Monsters and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins since making his professional debut in 2020-21. He is tied for the team lead in penalty minutes in 2022-23 with 0-5-5, 22 PIM and 14 shots in 14 contests with Cleveland. In 2021-22, he ranked 13th-T in the AHL in PIM and set career highs with 4-7-11 and 114 PIM in 70 contests with the Monsters.
The Hanson, Massachusetts native signed a two-year, two-way NHL/AHL contract with the Blue Jackets beginning in the 2022-23 season on Mar. 7, 2022. He recorded 3-26-29 with 159 PIM and was +16 in 127 career NCAA games at Yale University from 2016-20. Skating in his senior campaign in 2019-20, he finished with 0-8-8 and 47 penalty minutes in 32 outings. The 6-1, 206-pound defenseman also spent parts of two seasons with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Chicago Steel in the United States Hockey League from 2014-16, collecting 3-1-4 and 135 PIM in 58 appearances.
