Berni Release

The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Tim Berni from the Cleveland Monsters, the club's American Hockey League affiliate and assigned center Brendan Gaunce to the Monsters, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Berni, 22, has totaled four goals and 15 assists for 19 points with 54 penalty minutes and 91 shots in 87 career AHL games with the Monsters since making his North American pro debut in 2021-22. He has collected 1-3-4, 10 PIM, 14 shots and a +1 plus/minus rating in 15 contests with Cleveland in 2022-23. In 2021-22, he finished third among team rookies in PIM and fourth in assists with 3-12-15 and 44 PIM in 72 appearances.
The 6-0, 192-pound native of Mannedorf, Switzerland was selected by the Blue Jackets in the sixth round, 159th overall, at the 2018 NHL Draft. He played four seasons with the ZSC Lions in Switzerland's top professional league (NLA) from 2017-20, registering 9-17-26, 36 PIM and 182 shots in 146 games. He has also represented Switzerland at various international tournaments, including three IIHF World Junior Championships (2018-2020).
Gaunce, 28, has recorded 0-1-1 and two PIM in five contests with the Blue Jackets this season and has notched 11-13-24 with 61 PIM in 153 career games with the Blue Jackets, Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks since making his NHL debut in 2015-16. Signed as a free agent with the Blue Jackets on July 30, 2021, the Sudbury, Ontario native has added 86-101-187, 177 PIM, 16 PPG, 18 GWG and 739 shots in 290 career AHL games with Cleveland, Providence and Utica since making his pro debut in 2014-15. The 6-3, 219-pound forward has collected 4-7-11 in 10 contests with Cleveland in 2022-23.
