Columbus Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today that restricted free agent right wing Kole Sherwood has accepted the club's qualifying offer for a one year, two-way National Hockey League/American Hockey League contract for the 2020-21 season. The club also announced it has loaned Sherwood to Kunlun Red Star of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. He is expected to rejoin the Blue Jackets prior to the start of the 2020-21 NHL season.
Sherwood, 23, has skated in five career NHL games with Columbus, including three appearances during the 2019-20 campaign after making his season debut on November 2 vs. Calgary. He became the first player born in the Columbus-area to appear in a regular season game for the franchise when he made his NHL debut on Feb. 16, 2019 at Chicago.
The New Albany, Ohio native has added 26 goals and 12 assists for 38 points with 127 penalty minutes in 101 career AHL games with the Cleveland Monsters.
