Hofmann, 28, was acquired by the Blue Jackets in a trade from the Carolina Hurricanes on February 21. He recorded 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points with 20 penalty minutes, seven power play goals, four game-winning goals and a +13 plus/minus ratings on 17:36 of ice time in 36 contests while serving as an alternate captain for EV Zug in Switzerland's top professional league (National League A) in 2020-21. He finished fifth in the league in points-per-game (1.14), seventh in GWG, seventh-T in PPG and 12th-T in goals. He led his club in PPG and GWG and ranked third in goals, points and points-per-game. The forward added 6-8-14 in 13 postseason appearances and scored the clinching goal to help Zug win the NL championship.
A native of Biel-Bienne, Switzerland, Hofmann has registered 165-159-324, 255 penalty minutes and a cumulative +52 plus/minus rating in 485 career games over 12 NLA seasons with EV Zug, HC Lugano, HC Davos and HC Ambri-Piotta from 2009-21. He has posted eight campaigns of double-digit goals, including three-straight 20-goal seasons from 2017-20, and has notched three consecutive 40-point campaigns. The 6-0, 201-pound forward was selected to the NL Media All-Star Team in 2018-19 and 2019-20. He recorded 24-23-47 in 50 games with EV Zug in 2019-20 and led the NLA in goals and set career highs in goals and points with 30-21-51 in 50 appearances with HC Lugano in 2018-19.
Hofmann was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the fourth round, 103rd overall, at the 2011 NHL Draft. He has represented Switzerland at numerous international tournaments, including the 2018 Winter Olympics. He also skated for the country at the 2016, 2018 (silver), 2019 and 2021 IIHF World Championships as well as the 2011 and 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships. In eight games at this year's IIHF World Championship tournament, he collected 6-2-8 in eight games, ranking third-T in goals and ninth-T in points.
