The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed TPS left wing Mikael Pyyhtia (pronounced PEW-tee-uh) to a three-year, entry level contract, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The forward was selected by the Blue Jackets in the fourth round, 114th overall, at the 2020 NHL Draft.

Pyyhtia, 20, registered 21 goals and 14 assists for 35 points with six penalty minutes, seven power play goals, four game-winning goals, 150 shots on goal and a +8 plus/minus rating, while averaging 15:00 of ice time in 56 regular season games with TPS in Finland's top professional league (Liiga) in 2021-22. He ranked fifth-T in the league in goals, ninth-T in power play goals and 11th-T in game-winning goals. He also led players 20-years-old or younger in goals and ranked second in points and game-winning goals (tied) and third-T in power play goals. The 6-0, 191-pound forward added 8-5-13 in 18 playoff games, tying for the league lead in goals and ranking fourth in points as he helped TPS reach the Liiga finals, where the club fell to Tappara, 4-1, in a best-of-seven series.
The Turku, Finland native has totaled 24-19-43 with 10 PIM, seven power play goals, five game-winners, 225 shots on goal and a cumulative +11 plus/minus rating in 93 career games with TPS since making his Liiga debut in 2019-20. He collected 3-4-7, four PIM and was +3 in 35 regular season appearances with the club in 2020-21 and added 1-4-5 in 13 playoff outings to help the team reach the league final in the 2021 postseason.
Pyyhtia racked up 27-49-76 with 37 PIM and a cumulative +29 plus/minus rating in 88 career games with TPS' junior team from 2018-21. He helped Finland win a bronze medal at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships, finishing with 1-1-2 in seven games.
