CBJ/Pepsi Summer Cup coming July 15 - August 23

CBJ Gaming, the e-sports arm of the Columbus Blue Jackets, is hosting the CBJ/Pepsi Summer Cup, a 6v6 tournament in which participants from the United States and Canada can compete in EA Sports NHL20 on Xbox One. The online tournament, which already has 80 teams registered, including a pair of NHL club representatives in the Anaheim Ducks and Florida Panthers, kicks off on July 15 and will be run through LeagueGaming.com.

"The response we've had since launching CBJ Gaming has been terrific and we wanted to do something unique for the die-hard NHL20 community," said Blue Jackets Director of Digital Media T.J. Ansley. "The feedback we received from the influencers was that the future of NHL esports will be competitive 6s. Teaming up with Pepsi and LeagueGaming for this event is the beginning of our investment into the future of NHL esports."

Players from the U.S. and Canada can register for free now through July 14 at cbj.co/summercup. The tournament will consist of a four-week regular season, followed by two weeks of playoff competition featuring the top 16 teams facing off in best-of-five series culminating with the championship final on August 23. The championship series will begin at 8 p.m. ET and be streamed live on twitch.tv/NHLBlueJackets. The winning team will receive $1,400 with the runner-up receiving $600.

The Blue Jackets introduced CBJ Gaming in April as a new initiative that would allow the club to interact with fans through live streams, tournaments, giveaways and more through a variety of e-sports and gaming activities. Since its launch, the club has participated in several gaming initiatives and hosted three previous NHL20 tournaments (two 1v1 and one 3v3). At the conclusion of the CBJ/Pepsi Summer Cup, the club will have awarded over $14,000 in prize money.
