Battalion Breakdown is a closer look at the Blue Jackets' past season from a numerical standpoint, starting with the highest jersey number and counting down to the lowest. Today, BlueJackets.com examines center Mark Letestu's season and how it impacted Columbus in the 2017-18 campaign.
Mark Letestu
Number: 55
Age: 33
Birthdate: February 4, 1985
Height/Weight: 5-10, 195
Position: Center
Nickname: 'Testy'
Letestu only played in 20 games for the Blue Jackets, after he was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers a day before the NHL Trade Deadline, but he still played a key role in Columbus qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs again.
A veteran center with 233 games of previous experience playing for the Jackets, Letestu stepped right back into the Blue Jackets' lineup to help solidify a fourth line struggling with inconsistency.
After a nearly two-year stint with the Oilers, Letestu returned to lend a strong shot, face-off skill and veteran knowledge to a Columbus team needing an infusion of experience and leadership among its second two forward lines.
Letestu only had one goal after the trade, scored in his first game back, but his overall contribution to the Blue Jackets went deeper than offensive statistics. He was an additional leader, on and off the ice, and his versatility earned him minutes on both the third and fourth lines.
Here's a closer look at Letestu's season in Columbus and how it impacted the Blue Jackets:

THE BREAKDOWN
4
Twenty games with the Blue Jackets in 2018 was enough time for Letestu to tack on three assists to his goal for a total of four points with Columbus. That pushed his point totals as a Blue Jacket to 102 through four-plus seasons (253 games).
6.3
Letestu's shooting percentage was a stark departure from his typical number, which normally lands somewhere between nine and 13. His highest was 14.1 percent with the Blue Jackets in 2013.
52.9
Something that didn't waver from his career numbers was Letestu's face-off win percentage, which finished at 52.9 percent. It dipped to 48.4 percent in six playoff games against the Washington Capitals, who deployed veteran center Jay Beagle liberally in that series, but Letestu's win percentage for the regular season was the fifth-highest of his NHL career (nine seasons).
0
Number of penalty minutes for Letestu during the Blue Jackets portion of his season. In 20 games, averaging 12:10 per game ice time, Letestu stayed out of the box in every game. Playing in primarily a checking role, that was helpful for a team that couldn't afford to play shorthanded too much while chasing a playoff spot.
23.6
Letestu was deployed on the fourth line, used heavily in defensive situations. He went from starting in the offensive zone 45.8 percent of the time in Edmonton, also in a fourth-line role, to 23.6 percent in Columbus. His defensive-zone starts went from 54.2 percent with the Oilers to 76.4 percent with the Blue Jackets.
39.5
Letestu only got one shootout attempt this season, after taking nine in 2016-17 for the Oilers. He went 4-for-9 for Edmonton last year (44.4 percent) but missed his lone attempt this year. Letestu is 15-for-28 in shootouts during his NHL career, scoring on 39.5 percent.
