WASHINGTON -- There's one thing the Blue Jackets universally acknowledged after defeating the Washington Capitals, 5-4, in overtime of Game 2 on Sunday at Capital One Arena.
They need to take fewer penalties.
"I think we have a way of doing it, we just need to be more consistent doing it," coach John Tortorella said. "We can't be doing it all that time. It's just impossible. They're too good. That has to be straightened out moving forward."

Matt Calvert won the game 12:22 into overtime, but the Blue Jackets still want to work on a few things, such as tightening up a penalty kill that went 3-for-7 against a dangerous Capitals power play Sunday.
T.J. Oshie scored the tying goal in regulation with less than five minutes left in regulation, while Boone Jenner was in the penalty box for slashing.
"I don't know what the percentage was tonight or how many we had, we just had too many," Calvert said. "And when you do that, you keep giving their skill guys a chance. That's something we're gonna be focused on."
Alex Ovechkin scored each of his goals on the power play, one each in the first and second periods. The first was after Cam Atkinson was called for a slashing penalty from his trademark spot in the left circle and the second when captain Nick Foligno went to the box for high-sticking.
After that, Columbus was able to somewhat neutralize Ovechkin. Washington, however, adjusted. If Ovechkin wasn't open, the puck would go to Oshie, Nicklas Backstrom or John Carlson.
That's exactly what happened when Oshie scored the goal that sent the game to overtime.
"They have so many options, so many weapons out there," defenseman Ian Cole said. "It's tough to shut them down for a long period of time. That's the thing. That's what makes PK so hard. Everything needs to be very precise cause it's the five best players on their team and those are really good players."
Maybe the Blue Jackets' best penalty killer was Sergei Bobrovsky, who stopped 54 shots in regulation and overtime combined.
"I try to don't think about those things, how many shots I face," Bobrovsky said. "I just prepare myself for first period and just feel good and enjoy the atmosphere and we'll see what's gonna happen. It was nice. It's definitely a great win, a great team win. Guys step up when we needed to."
